Black Canyon Road - Northbound
Hiking Around Las Vegas, Mojave National Preserve
Black Canyon Road
Black Canyon Road

Overview

Black Canyon Road runs 20 miles north-south through the central portion of the Preserve connecting Interstate-40 and Essex Road with Cedar Canyon Road. The southern 10.7 miles are paved, and the remaining 9.1 miles are graded dirt. The dirt portion normally is fine for sedans, but it can be badly washboarded. The road is described in detail in the Southbound direction; here are presented only a few pictures of driving in the northbound direction.

This road provides access to several hikes, homes, ranches, and developed and primitive camping areas in Round Valley, Gold Valley, and Fenner Valley. This road also connects with roads leading to the Hole-in-the-Wall Visitor Center and Fire Station.
