Overview

The Schaefer Spring Loop Trail is a fairly easy loop in the little visited mountain area south of Griffith Peak and Harris Mountain. The pinyon-juniper forest burned many years ago, so the view is unobstructed and provides grand vistas up and down Lovell Canyon, but surprisingly, there are no views of springs.

The Schaefer Spring Loop Trail is a horseshoe-shaped loop off the top of the loop-portion of Lovell Canyon Trail. This trail is short, only 1.6 miles, but it takes a total of 7.1 miles to do it from the trailhead.

This trail is described in detail westbound (starting on the east end), but here are posted photos useful for hikers heading in the other direction: starting on the west end and traveling eastbound (actually north, east, and then south back to Lovell Canyon Trail).
