Barnyard Geese (Anser domesticus)

General Description: Barnyard Geese (Anser domesticus), the most common type of feral domestic geese around Las Vegas, are geese that escaped or were released from captivity and now live "wild" in local ponds and lakes.

Barnyard Geese range in color from white to gray. White barnyard geese are recognized by their all-white plumage and orange bill. Gray barnyard geese are recognized by their all-gray plumage (except white rump) and gray, unmarked breast (contrast with the mottled breast of Greater White-fronted Geese). Domestic geese breed with other forms of domestic geese, producing a motley range of colorful mixes.

Taxonomy: Anseriformes, Anatidae, Anserinae

Favored Habitat: Ponds in parks and neighborhoods.
