Harris' Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus)

General Description: Harris's Hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus) are dark brown hawks with red in the shoulders and leggings. The long tail is black with a broad white band at the tip. Although usually covered by the folded wings, the base of the tail and the tail coverts are white. In flight, the wing-linings are red.

Taxonomy: Accipitriformes, Accipitridae. Formerly Harris' Hawk.

Favored Habitat: Sonoran Desert scrub with saguaro cactus, plus mountains and cliffs in the vicinity.

Comments: These hawks are social. They hunt and live in family groups.
