General Description: Elf Owls (Micrathene whitneyi) are tiny owls with yellow eyes and a very short tail. No ear tufts. Roosts in cavities, including Saguaro Cactus cavities and holes in trees.

Taxonomy: Strigiformes, Strigidae.

Favored Habitat: Sonoran desert canyons with oaks and sycamore trees, Saguaro Cactus desert scrub.
