Say's Phoebes (Sayornis saya)

General Description: Say's Phoebes (Sayornis saya) are medium-sized birds of the desert with a salmon-colored belly, gray back and wings, and a black tail. Say's Phoebes are fly catchers, and often can be seen flying out from a perch to catch an insect, then returning to the same perch to look for another. Sometimes they catch bugs on the ground too.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Tyrannidae, Fluvicolinae.

Favored Habitat: Desert scrub.

Where to Find: Say's Phoebes are fairly common around Las Vegas; look for them in desert scrub; Red Rock Canyon and the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve are good places to find Say's.
