Mormon Fritillary (Speyeria mormonia)

General: The Mormon Fritillaries (Speyeria spp.) are medium-sized butterflies generally recognized by their orange wings with black patterning, which is often irregular lines near the base of the wings and spots and crescents towards the tips.

Taxonomy: Family: Brush-footed Butterflies (Nymphalidae); Subfamily: Heliconians or Longwings (Heliconiinae).

Comments: Occur throughout western North America.
