General: Northern Checkerspot Butterflies (Chlosyne palla) are recognized by their orange and white-spotted patterns. In males, the upper-side is light orange with a pale, broken median band, and the base of the hindwing is dark. The underside is lighter orange with whitish bands set in irregularly shaped blocks. Females are similar to males or darker.

Taxonomy: Family: Brush-footed Butterflies (Nymphalidae); Subfamily: True Brushfoots (Nymphalinae).
