General Description: Black Racers (Coluber constrictor) are nonvenomous, glossy black snakes with a white belly. They have good eyesight and often move with the head held up and alert for predators and prey. If they encounter a potential predator, they race off at high speeds. They are equally quick at catching frogs, lizards, other snakes, and will climb into trees in search of birds and bird eggs.

Taxonomy: Colubrid Snakes Family (Colubridae).

Where to Find: Don't look for Black Racers around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in eastern North America and eastern Central America.
