The Bunkhouse at the Walking Box Ranch was part of the working cattle ranch, but the original has been replaced. The bunkhouse is used by visiting researchers. One of the caretaker's daily responsibilities is to ensure that the bunkhouse is clean, supplied, and in working order. The area currently is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and managed by Friends of Avi Kwa Ame. The area is watched by a caretaker, and three law enforcement officers live on-site in travel trailers. The site is available for researchers and occasional tours, but otherwise it is closed to the public. |
