Hiker at the foundation of Horace Wilson's house (view W) |
Overview
In the 1920s, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Wilson homesteaded Pine Creek Canyon. They built a home, planted a big garden and orchard, and ran cattle. They lived here for about 10 years, but with increasing age, eventually moved to Las Vegas.
Only the foundation of the house, an old apple tree, and the garden plot remain. Except for yerba santa, the garden still is mostly clear of shrubs after all these years.
The Wilson homesite is located along the Pine Creek Canyon Trail, some 0.80 miles west of the trailhead. For details of getting to the old ranch, see the description of the Pine Creek Canyon Trail. |
