Ecuador -- Mainland and Galapagos Islands, Oct. 2011 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Day 05, October 18. Morning at Isla Bartolome. Afternoon at Isla Santiago. Sail towards Isla Santa Cruz. This might have been our busiest day. We started out with an early run to look for Galapagos Penguins and saw several, then returned to the ship for breakfast. We then returned to the island and hiked over sand dunes to walk on the beach on the far side, finding evidence of sea turtle nests laid during the night. We then rode the pangas to the boardwalk trail and hiked to the summit of the island. Finally, we returned to the ship, picked up snorkeling gear, and rode back to the beach. After lunch, we moved across the straits to Isla Santiago where we hiked on the fresh lava (less than 100 years old) and had a chance to do more snorkeling. After leaving Isla Santiago, we set sail for Isla Santa Cruz, where we had dinner and spent the night. |
