General: Lewis' Flax (Linum lewisii) is a perennial forb with upright stems that have short, linear leaves held close against the stem and a white or blue flower at the tip. After flowering, the plant produced a globe-shaped seed pod that persists on the dead plant.
Lewis' Flax is an uncommon component of vegetation communities in dry, well-drained gravelly areas on bajadas into the lower mountains in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub and Pinyon-Juniper Woodland), Transition (Yellow Pine Forest), and Canadian (Pine-Fir Forest) life zones.
Around Las Vegas, look for Lewis' Flax at middle to higher elevations at Red Rock Canyon NCA and up in the mountains on Mt. Charleston and in the Sheep Range.
