General: Water Speedwell (Veronica anagallis-aquatica) is a perennial forb of wet areas with upright stems and clasping leaves. Inflorescences arise from leaf axils. The flowers are asymmetrical, with three of the four petals wider than the fourth. The flowers are off-white (pale blue) with purple lines.
Water Speedwell is an uncommon component of vegetation communities in wet areas on bajadas into the lower mountains in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub and Pinyon-Juniper Woodland) life zone.
Around Las Vegas, look for Water Speedwell along creeks in the Cold Creek area.
