General: Charleston Mountain Violet (Viola charlestonensis) is a low-growing perennial forb with roundish leaves set on long petioles. The flowers are yellow and bilaterally symmetrical with purple streaks in the throat.
Charleston Mountain Violet is a fairly common component of desert mountain communities. Around Las Vegas, look for this species in the Yellow Pine Forest (Transition) life zone up on Mt. Charleston. The Mary Jane Trail and the Griffith Peak Trail are good places to find this species.
This species is known only from southern Nevada and southern Utah.
