Southwestern Bushy Bluestem (Andropogon eremicus)

General: Southwestern Bushy Bluestem (Andropogon eremicus) is an uncommon, tall, upright grass that grows in individual clumps (bunches) in damp places the deserts around Las Vegas. Unlike other bunchgrasses, the seedheads are quite bushy and reddish.

Southwestern Bushy Bluestem is an uncommon component of vegetation associations in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub) and higher life zones. Look for this species near the springs in Calico Basin at Red Rocks NCA.

Family: Grass (Poaceae).

Other Names: formerly Bushy Bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus).

Plant Form: Perennial grass. Grows in bunches.

Height: About 3 feet.
