Blue Gramma (Bouteloua gracilis)

General: Blue Gramma (Bouteloua gracilis) is a medium-height, spindly, upright grass that grows in individual clumps (bunches) in the deserts around Las Vegas. In the flowerhead, all of the individual flowers line up one side of the stem, and the flowerhead tends to curl around. As a result, all seeds develop on one side of the stem. The rachis (the stem holding the seeds) does not extend beyond the seeds.

Blue Gramma is an uncommon component of vegetation associations in the Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub) life zone.
