General Description: Great Horned Owls (Bubo virginianus) are large, chunky, dark owls with long ear tufts (the "horns") and a white throat. The overall color is gray, but there is some rust mixed in, and the facial disk is rusty colored.
Taxonomy: Strigiformes, Strigidae.
Favored Habitat: Desert scrub with cliffs where they can roost in caves and crevices, or areas with large trees. |

Where to Find: Around Las Vegas, look for Great Horned Owls in the rural areas on the outskirts of town where they can occasionally be found roosting in trees.
