Description: Vermilion Flycatchers (Pyrocephalus rubinus) are medium-sized, sexually dimorphic birds. Adult males are black above, bright red under, and have a black bandit mask. Adult females are dark above with a light-colored, striped front and salmon-pink belly.
Vermilion Flycatcher are "fly catchers," and often are seen flying out from a perch to catch an insect in the air, then returning to the same perch to look for another passing fly. Sometimes they catch bugs on the ground.

Favored Habitat: Wooded, riparian areas. |

Where to Find: Vermilion Flycatchers are uncommon around Las Vegas. Look for them in desert riparian areas in Arizona. They occasionally show up at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, in the Overton area, and in other riparian areas around southern Nevada.
