General Description: American Crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos) are all black with a purplish gloss in good light. American Crows are similar to Common Ravens, but crows are smaller, have a shorter and thinner bill, and the end of the tail is straight across.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Corvidae.
Favored Habitat: Farm fields and other agricultural lands.
Where to Find: American Crows are very uncommon around Las Vegas, but look for them in agricultural areas.
Comments: Crows are gregarious birds often seen foraging in great numbers in agricultural areas. In contrast, Common Ravens usually are found alone or in small family groups in deserts and mountains. |
