Black-billed Magpie (Pica hudsonia)

General Description: Black-billed Magpies (Pica hudsonia) are large, black and white birds with a very long tail. The body is all black except for a white belly, and the wings are black with a white patch. The black is somewhat iridescent, sometimes shown green.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Corvidae.

Favored Habitat: Farming areas with trees.

Where to Find: Magpies aren't usually found in the Las Vegas valley, but they are common north of Las Vegas. Look for them north of Tonopah, and around Austin and Lund. The Pahranagat Valley and Caliente are areas to check for magpies.
