General Description: Florida Scrub-Jays (Aphelocoma coerulescens) are blue jays without crests. The head, wings, and tail are blue. The upper back is brown, and the belly is gray. The throat and upper breast are white, bordered by blue to form what is referred to as a "necklace."
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Corvidae.
Favored Habitat: Sandy, oak scrublands of Peninsular Florida.
Where to Find: Don't look for Florida Scrub-Jays around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in Peninsular Florida.
Comments: Due to habitat loss to development, this species is classified as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act. |
