General Description: Brown Creepers (Certhia americana) are small, mottled brown birds that almost always forage on tree trunks. They are mottled brown above, white below, and have a long, decurved bill.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Certhiidae, Certhiinae.
Favored Habitat: Higher-elevation mountains with conifer trees. Uncommon but expected in the Yellow Pine and higher life zones. |

Where to Find: Look for Creepers in Kyle Canyon, Lee Canyon, and other higher-elevation areas on Mt. Charleston and other mountains around Las Vegas.
Comments: Creepers almost always work upward as they search for bugs under the bark of conifer trees. When they get high enough, they fly to the base of the next tree and start climbing upward again. |
