The bill is long. The short tail is usually held cocked upward. Of the western wrens, Pacific Wrens have the shortest tails.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Troglodytidae.
Favored Habitat: Brushy places in moist forests.
Where to Find: Around Las Vegas, look for Pacific Wrens in riparian areas in Zion National Park during winter where they are uncommon. Otherwise, look for them in the great northern forests during summer.
Comments: Usually heard long before seen, listen for the loud, buzzy song. |
