General Description: Golden-crowned Kinglets (Regulus satrapa) are tiny birds with a bright yellow (female) or yellow-orange (male) crown set off by a black line. The back is yellow-green, and the wings are yellow-green with black and white wingbars. The head, throat, and underparts are gray. The face is gray with a bit of a black eyeline and a short black mustache mark. The beak is short, thin, and pointed.

Favored Habitat: Conifer forests. |

Where to Find: Golden-crowned Kinglets are birds of the coniferous forest, so look for the in the higher mountains (e.g., Mount Charleston) around Las Vegas. They normally remain in the tops of the highest trees, but if you are lucky, you might see one coming down for a bath.
Comments: If you can hear very high notes, they are said to be quite chatty as them move about the treetops. |
