General Description: Hooded Warblers (Setophaga citrina) are small, sexually dimorphic songbirds. They are yellow-green above, yellow under, and have a beady black eye. The outer tail feathers are white. Males have a distinctive black hood.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Parulidae. Formerly Wilsonia citrina.
Favored Habitat: Wet areas with shrubs.
Where to Find: This is an eastern species, so don't look for them around Las Vegas, but a few lost birds show up in Nevada every year. The bird pictured here was seen at Calico Basin in May 2007. |
