Abert's Towhee (Melozone aberti)

General Description: Abert's Towhees (Melozone aberti) are large, sexually monomorphic sparrows. Abert's are light brown overall with a black mask and reddish-orange under the tail (rusty red under-tail coverts).

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Emberizidae.

Favored Habitat: Open desert with shrubs, shrubby canyons.

Where to Find: Abert's are not common, but check for them at Red Rock Canyon NCA, Corn Creek on the Desert National Wildlife Range, and the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve.
