General Description: Painted Buntings (Passerina ciris) are small, sexually dimorphic finches. Males are very festive with blue, green, red, and yellow feathers. Females are green, and juveniles are yellow-green with a pale eyering.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Cardinalidae.
Favored Habitat: Woodland edges with dense brush.
Where to Find: Don't look for Painted Buntings around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in the southern US during summer, and south into Mexico during winter. A few winter in south Florida. |
