General Description: Yellow Grosbeaks (Pheucticus chrysopeplus) are large, sexually dimorphic songbirds with a very large head and bill. In males, the back, wings, and tail are black with white spots. The head and body are yellow. Females are a dull version of the male.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Cardinalidae.
Where to Find: Don't look for Yellow Grosbeaks around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them on the Pacific slope of Mexico south to Guatemala. Keep an eye out for rare visitors to the US along the Mexican border in Arizona and New Mexico.
