Spotted Bats (Euderma maculatum) are large, black bats with white spots on the back. The ears and belly are light. The head and body are almost 5-inches long, and
the wingspan probably is about 14 inches. The ears are large (longer than 1 inch) and not joined across the forehead. The nose is simple.
Around Las Vegas, Spotted Bats are rarely caught, and so are thought to be uncommon.
Spotted Bats occur throughout western North America (barely into Canada, south into central Mexico) in mountains to about 10,000 ft and also in low-elevation arid areas. Spotted bats catch larger flying insects (e.g., beetles, grasshoppers, and moths) on the wing and eat them while in flight.
