Liz, Mocha, and I had the good fortune of substituting for the regular caretaker during 11 days in late September 2012. We relaxed, took care of the area, pulled lots of weeds, and explored the surrounding countryside.

The Walking Box Ranch is owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and managed by the Friends of Avi Kwa Ame. The area is watched by a caretaker and three law enforcement officers who live on-site. The site is available for occasional tours, but otherwise it is closed to the public.
