General Description: Painted Redstarts (Myioborus pictus) are tiny black warblers with a red front and belly, white patches in the wings, white outer tail feathers, and a bit of white under the eye.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Parulidae.
Favored Habitat: Brushy mountain woodlands and riparian thickets from central Arizona and central New Mexico south into Mexico.
Where to Find: Around Las Vegas, Painted Redstarts are quite rare because they range only as far north as central Arizona, but keep an eye out for them in the Spring Mountains (Fletcher Spring) and in upper Zion Canyon.
