Identification: White-nosed Coatis (Nasua narica) are medium-sized (size of a small dog) predator-scavengers with a long snout, black bandit mask, a white nose, white around the eyes, and a long, banded tail. The fur is dark reddish brown overall, but there is a bit of white frosting on the shoulder.

Preferred Habitat: Open forests.
Diet: White-nosed Coati eat anything that doesn't run faster than they do. Their natural diet consists of roots and tubers, plus grasshoppers, crickets, mice, bird eggs, frogs, fruit, and similar items.
Where to Find: Don't look for White-nosed Coati around Las Vegas. Rather, look for this uncommon creature in central Arizona and eastward to southern Texas, and then south into Mexico. |
