Overview

Echo Road is a paved, 0.6-mile-long road in upper Kyle Canyon that runs from Kyle Canyon to Crest View Drive, all of which is located in the high mountains of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. The road provides access to the Echo Canyon residential area, two trailheads (Mary Jane Falls Trailhead and Trail Canyon Trailhead), and tremendous scenery all around.

Watch Out

Other than the standard warnings about driving in the desert, ...this is a fairly safe drive. The road is narrow and signed at 15 mph. Nonetheless, always watch for crazy drivers careening around blind corners. The road is subject to avalanches during winter, so keep an eye out and don't park in danger areas. There is no gasoline on the mountain.

While out, please respect the land and the other people out there (especially private property rights), and try to Leave No Trace of your passage. Also, even though this is a paved road, be sure to bring what you need of the 10 Essentials.

Getting to the Roadhead

This road is located off Kyle Canyon Road about 40 minutes northwest of Las Vegas. From town, drive north on Highway 95. Just on the outskirts of town, turn left onto Kyle Canyon Road and drive west into the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. From the highway, drive 20.4 miles to Echo Road (Site 0733), which forks to the right at the start of a sharp curve to the left.

The Road

From Kyle Canyon Road, Echo Road forks to the right. The road passes houses on the right and the community mailboxes on the left. In about 200 yards, Echo Road passes Echo Trailhead (Site 1282), on the left. This small trailhead parking area provides access to the Echo Trail and Little Falls Trail. it also connects with the Cathedral Rock Trailhead.

Continuing, Echo Road runs northwest and then bends to the north. Just around the curve, at about 0.4 miles out, Echo Road passes Mary Jane Road (Site 0734), on the left. This road runs out to the Mary Jane Falls Trailhead (Site 0541), which provides access to Mary Jane Falls Trail and Big Falls Trail.

Now running due north, at about 0.5 miles out, Echo Road passes the turnoff (Site 1281) to Trail Canyon Trailhead parking area (Site 0490), which provides access to Trail Canyon Trail and North Loop Trail.

At about 0.6 miles out, Echo Road ends on a hairpin turn where the road name changes to Crest View Drive and runs back into the residential area. Residents would prefer that we stay out.
